WELCOME TO OUR JOURNAL
2003
October 2003
I have been remiss is keeping up on this journal... time as really flown past me this year! It is amazing that the last time I wrote, we were heading off to Syracuse for a convention and now I am three weeks from heading off to Wichita for the ARBA convention. Time sure does fly doesnt it? I am very excited to go to Wichita as I have never visited that part of our great country. I look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones from all over. Having these dwarfs has really given me a chance to travel and see parts of the USA I would never have seem otherwise. It sure has made those rabbit tray cleanings worth it!
I am currently amazed at the number of late summer/early fall babies I have in the nestboxes right now. I have a new barn and this year was the first year that my buck's didnt go through any type of sterile stage due to summer heat. The new barn is insulated and it seems to have helped things quite a bit. Of course, I bred all my does thinking most would miss as usual for this time of the year and everyone had babies to my surprise! I have had a few interesting surprises in the boxes including a squirrel and a few blue torts which I have never had in my barn. What fun!!!
I recently started back into blue eyed whites and I am really enjoying them. I have several babies now and I look foward to watching them mature. It's always a challenge to start something new:> Speaking of new.... I have started raising Jersey Woolies as a joint venture with my good friend, Carrie Engel. We decided to work together on these wooly bunnies and we are enjoying the results so far. I look forward to showing something new and having fun with them.
Well, I hope your nestboxes are full and there is lots of potential in there for the next show season!!
April 2003
What a month this has turned out to be for our family and our rabbitry! We had the opportunity to go to the ANDRC National Convention in Syracuse, NY. What a wonderful convention!! They sure did a wonderful job!!! To all those that worked on this convention, our hats off to you!!! This is the best convention I have attended thus far. Our bunnies did very well which made us proud. The best part is that we had a wonderful time visiting with friends both old and new. There is nothing like getting away from things and immersing in the bunny world with lots of folks that share the same hobby. What a great weekend!!
We are pleased to see more rabbits in the barn this month with the birth of a few more litters. We have had lilacs, chocolates, blacks, black otters, chocolate otters, lilac otters... what a wonderful rainbow of varieties! I am hoping that atleast a few will turn out good enough to try their hand at the showtables:> I hope everyone has lots of bunnies in the boxes and has a fabulous beginning to the spring season!!
March 2003
March is here and thank goodness because that means spring is on the way!! The bunnies always seem so much happier and perkier in the spring time and does want to breed again which makes for a nice spring wave of litters. I can hardly wait for the sunshine to come again as we moved to five acres and spring here should be very fun. I can hardly wait to get enough sunshine to do a thorough cleaning of the rabbitry. Spring cleaning in the rabbitry happens before it does in my house:> You can tell where my priorities are! LOL!
I am also getting excited for the April trip to Syracuse, NY for the ANDRC national show! It should be a wonderful show and a new adventure since I have never visited the east coast before. I have a few otters, a lynx and a chestnut that I will bring with me plus a few others for people that would like to buy bunnies. The nationals are always such a treat because it is wonderful to look at so many incredible typed dwarfs in one place!
The NWNDRC and FMNDRC joint show at Petco went very well last weekend! Thanks to everyone that attended!! Congratulations to Mike and Theresa Misner for their BOB and BEST Jr. wins and also to Dave and Deanna Elkins for their BOS win!! As always, our area exhibits some of the most beautiful dwarfs in the country and it is always such a joy to see them on the showtables. And, best of all, it's always such fun to talk bunnies with such great people!
Take care and think spring!!
February 2003
Well, the winter weather continues to bring us rain, rain and more rain... I am starting to mildew! I have been very pleased that even in winter I continue to get more babies born. It's good to see a new couple of litters every so often as it keeps the excitement going of raising these challenging little bunnies! I have had a rainbow of colors born in the barn these days including chestnuts, blacks, opals, blue otters, chocolates, lynx, black otters and also some fun lionhead babies. I am hoping to get more blues, opals and blue otters as I have always loved the dilute varieties. Hopefully I will see them more and more in upcoming litters. I also have begun playing with the lynx variety which should be a fun challenge.
We have been to a few shows lately and as usual it is a lot of fun! I hope to see everyone at a show coming up soon. NWNDRC is putting on a show in Portland, OR at the Petco along with the FMNDRC. It will be a very fun dwarf specialty show and I hope everyone can make it!
Well, good luck with those last winter litters...hang in there as spring will be here soon!!
January 2003
Happy New Year!! Another year is upon us and I can hardly wait for this rain and dreary weather to give way to spring sunshine! The bunnies are all breeding and having babies like it's springtime already and I hope they are right and it will be an early spring this year. This past month and half, the rabbitry has seen many new babies including some new colors to us such as Lynx!! We are very excited to be playing with lynx and blue right now and hope to have something to show by the summer shows. The best thing about our little dwarfs is that each new batch of babies brings a surprise:> That's what keeps us all so hooked on these little guys!!
We went to our first show of the year in Oregon last weekend and had a great time!! Nice to finally get the new show season started and we can hardly wait for the next show in a week or so. One thing I want to remind everyone is to weigh your bunnies before you enter the shows. I had a tough time with that this past weekend as I was in a hurry when I did my entry. It really is worth the time to know what they weigh and enter them correctly... I have learned my lesson!!
Hope to see everyone at a show soon!!
Well, better not stay in one spot too long or I might mildew with all of this darn rain hanging around!! Stay dry and I hope your nestboxes are full!!!
