Tips For Purchasing Your New Rabbit

Purchasing a bunny either for a new pet or an addition to your rabbitry and breeding program is a very important decision. There are some very important questions to remember to ask before making a final decision. If purchasing a bunny for a pet make sure you are ready for the commitment this will involve. Bunnies need a good deal of attention and maintenance and this should be considered before any bunny is added to your home. If you have decided that a pet bunny is indeed what you and your family want, make sure you contact a breeder in your area. I recommend a breeder over a pet store for a number of important reasons. First, a breeder will be able to give you a little background on your bunny including the exact age and temperment of that particular bunny. It is not uncommon for pet stores to have a baby that is very cute but also a little too young to be away from its mom.  The few weeks after weaning are a sensitive time for any little bunny and many problems with the transition to pellets can occur. A breeder knows to watch for these signs and would not let a bunny go that may be having troubles. Also, there are definite advantages to seeing the parents of your bunny to gain some insight into possible temperment and future size and appearance of your bunny. Lastly, when you go to a breeder you have access to a wealth of information and advice that a pet store cannot provide. Most breeders will be happy to answer any questions and help in any way that they can. This can be a comfort when your bunny does something you don't expect!

Remember to educate yourself on the various types of bunnies and really look at a number of different types before deciding on the one for you. Also, visit different breeders and make a purchase from someone you feel comfortable with and who will be open to questions.

Of course, I am partial to my little Netherland Dwarfs as pets and to breed and show because of their wonderful small size for kids and their diverse colors and temperments. I have had the most wonderful experience with these little gems and would recommend them to any new bunny enthusiast. If you are considering purchasing a bunny, take a quick peak at my stock for sale page or email me direct. I always have bunnies available and I really enjoy helping people find the bunny that best fits their needs. I also would be able to recommend a breeder in your area if I can't provide the bunny you are searching to find. I hope if you are currently searching for a bunny for your home that you find that perfect little gem! Good Luck!
